U.S. citizens have a legal right to install a shelter. Under the second amendment of the United States Constitution, U.S. citizens are guaranteed the right to bear arms to provide protection in life threatening situations. Tornadoes, earthquakes, nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare fall under this amendment as life threatening forces. A storm pod or a survival pod falls under this classification as a defensive arm.

Above, a demonstration of the Fujita scale of tornado violence. With the Fujita scale, wind speed is not measured directly but rather estimated from the amount of damage.

An F-5 tornado makes the strongest winds on Earth; Doppler radar clocked one tornado at 318 mph. Tornado width is estimated by the path of destruction -- which can be up to one mile wide.

FEMA guidelines for number of occupants per shelter are as follows: For a tornado shelter - 5 square feet of space per person. For a hurricane - 10 square feet per person.
